Five Senses

Got a gorgeous book for 50c at my local Vinnies.  Such sweet images.  The book is called Five Senses by Tasha Tudor and was first printed in 1978.

The card below was a disaster - not how I wanted it to turn out.  I just wanted it on plain kraft cardstock, but I wanted to round the edges for something different.  But my little fiskars corner punch does not work properly and massacred the edges. I really wanted to keep the image so I just cut around it and stuck some paper on for the background.  But I don't like it.

 

 

 

 

This image was at the bottom of a story, and the kite string went through the text and the kite was up top.  So I fussy cut the kite and part of the string and tail and lined it up and glued it on.

Big Sister and Little Sister

I found this book, "Big Sister and Little Sister" for 40c.  I still have a few pages I could cut some tags from.  Worked out it cost $2.62 to make this lot.

Tales at Bedtime - Children's Bedtime Stories

Went for a drive yesterday and ended up at a Savers recycle store.  They were a bit more expensive than the op shops I normally frequent, but I picked up a couple big children's books - Tales at Bedtime and The Children's Dictionary in Pictures.  I think I'll make some bookmarks with the dictionary one (though I will probably have to buy a laminator, gee this hobby is becoming expensive).

But I've made some cards from the other book already:

My Prayer Book

These cards were made with images from the Rand McNally book "My Prayer Book".  Still have a few pages left with smaller images that I'll probably use for gift tags or small note cards.

Dogs and cats

These three images are from The Little Golden Book "Dogs". 

This one is also from a Little Golden Book, but I can't recall the name.  An appropriate card to say sorry? 

The card bases (and envelopes) are packs of 10 from Target I got on clearance for $2ea.  At the moment it's easier for me to use pre-cut bases and I just wanted to buy cheap ones whilst I was experimenting.

Can't recall the name of the book these ones came from (must take note before I pull them apart), I think it was just Ginny. I do remember that's the name of the cat.

My nephew's gift tag and card

My nephew turned one on the weekend, so I made him a gift tag and card with adorable teddy bear pictures.  Unfortunately I've thrown out the cover of the book, so I can't remember the exact name of it, think it was something like Teddy Town. All the pictures are just too, too cute.

Used Stampin' Up's crumb cake notecard as the base for the card, and just some red coloured cardstock for the base of the tag. 

Little Golden Book: Colors Are Nice

I adore the images in this book. I really hope I can stumble upon another copy in an op shop, so I can make more cards.  The Golden Books are a good size to use for square cards.

 



This one I tried something different by ripping the pages rather than trimming.  I'd like to say it was because I like the effect, but it was initially because the trimmer I bought was a bit faulty and I wasn't getting a straight line (have fixed it now).  But I do like how the torn pages look against the kraft card stock. 

I love this zebra one; I think I will give it to my nephew for his 6th birthday in a few months.

Repurposing children's books

I love vintage illustrations.  Every time I go to an op shop I scour the children's book section for vintage little golden books and other books.  So I have ended up with quite a collection.  Recently I was tired of all the boxes of stuff (not just books) in the shed so I decided I would cull them and donate them to my local church op shop.

For some reason though I decided to Google things to do with old books and came across some sites where people had used children's books to make cards or gift tags. So I thought I would keep some of the books and give it a go.  I felt a bit guilty tearing up a book, but I felt some of the illustrations are too cute for me to let go of.  So this is some of the stuff I've created so far.  I bought cheap pre-cut cards and envelopes from Target as I wasn't sure how I would go with it and whether I'd want to do it, but so far I'm having fun.
